Indie Game: The Movie To Premiere At Sundance

Homegrown feature doc Indie Game: The Movie from Winnipeg’s BlinkWorks has secured a slot at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival for its world premiere. IG:TM is an official selection in the World Documentary Competition at the fest, taking place in January.

“We are exceptionally thrilled, humbled and, actually, kind of numbed by this honour,” said directors/producers Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky in a statement.

“It’s surreal to think that Indie Game: The Movie has been invited to the same festival that introduced the world to the likes of  Super Size Me, Born Into Brothels, Man on Wire, The Cove and Waiting for Superman…that’s a heavy club to think about joining.”

The Winnipeg pair have drummed up plenty of buzz for their project which has been in the works for more than a year. They’ve garnered support from the gaming community through two Kickstarter campaigns that raised $100,000 for production.

Along with producing and directing, they’re also responsible for the cinematography, editing, and writing, as well as the web videos created during production.

Pajot and Swirsky claim their film is the “first on video game design to be featured at such a high level” — IG:TM delves into video games, their creators and craft. It also features music from Juno-nominated musician Jim Guthrie (Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP), finding out that making fun and games is anything but fun and games.

IG:TM’s first post-Sundance screening will take place in Winnipeg on Feb. 3, with other press screenings to follow in 2012.
