Wavefront Launches Quebec’s First Mobile Device Library

wavefrontWavefront, Canada’s Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research, in partnership with CRIM, announces the launch of the first mobile device library in the province of Quebec. Based out of CRIM’s applied research centre in Montreal, the Wavefront Device Library offers the mobile developer community unprecedented access to more than 1,000 of the latest and most widely used devices on the market for testing.

The Wavefront Device Library at CRIM will offer daily device rentals from as little as $10, ranging from the newest tablets such as the iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy, to sought after smartphones like the iPhone 5 and BlackBerry Z10. For the mobile developer community, easy access to devices dramatically reduces purchasing costs, as well as the time required to test applications across multiple platforms and networks.

Montreal-based mobile game developer Miralupa is among a growing number of companies currently waiting to gain access to the Wavefront Device Library. In advance of the launch of their title on the Android platform, Miralupa plans to test on a vast array of devices, platforms and networks now available through Wavefront and CRIM.

“The mobile gaming ecosystem is quite crowded. Developers have limited opportunity to attract and retain new users, making it critical to ensure that your first impression is bug-free,” Miralupa’s founder, Serge Landry explains. “To have local, low cost access to a comprehensive library of devices and platforms is something that we are quite excited about. It will enable us to have a shorter and less costly turn around between quality assurance, de-bugging and release to market.”

“We are thrilled to offer the very first device library in Quebec at CRIM. Helping to alleviate the financial barriers that developers often face in accessing critical testing equipment, this will be a valuable resource to accelerate the commercialization opportunities for the local developer community,” states Helene Joncas, Vice President of Business Development, Wavefront.

According to Nathalie Gosselin, CRIM’s General Manager of the Training and Transfer Centre and Testing and Interoperability Centre, “As more companies shift to deliver products and services through mobile platforms, the demand for testing mobile applications has increased. Our partnership with Wavefront will allow us to meet this demand for clients, improve the quality of their products, minimize their risks and optimize their investments. The Device Library is a complimentary addition to the advanced software testing tools that we make available to the IT community at our testing laboratory.”

The Wavefront Device Library will be unveiled on April 9, 2013 at a special launch event held at CRIM in Montreal. For more information about this program and how to begin testing on these devices, please contact Martin Dufresne, Wavefront Business Development Manager.
