Award-Winning Guacamelee! By DrinkBox Studios Now On PSN Menu

drinkbox studiosIt’s time to dust off that singlet and don the luchador mask as Guacamelee!, the award-winning, action – platformer from DrinkBox Studios, makes its debut on the PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita. Part of Sony Computer Entertainment’s “Pub Fund” initiative, Guacamelee! is available for $14.99 on the PS Network and PS Vita, and will feature cross-buy support, meaning potential luchadores only need to buy Guacamelee! once and the game will appear as a purchased title and can be downloaded for both systems. Guacamelee! is currently featured in Sony’s Spring Fever promotion, where PlayStation Plus members will receive a 20 percent discount when purchasing the game.

Set in and around a small village in Mexico, Guacamelee! is an action-packed, 2D brawler/platformer that alternates between the worlds of the living and the dead. Inspired by Mexican folklore, players take control of a down-on-his luck wrestler named Juan Aguacate, as he fights through hordes of undead enemies and skeleton henchmen to stop the evil Carlos Calaca from gaining ultimate power by sacrificing the beautiful “El Presidente’s Daughter.”

“As an independent studio we’re lucky enough to be able to take risks and get creative with our game design,” said Graham Smith, Co-Founder of DrinkBox Studios. “With Guacamelee!, we wanted to blur the boundaries between combat and platforming, all while giving players a vibrant setting inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore. We’re really excited with the way the game turned out and thrilled with the response we have had so far from our fans and the gaming press.”

While on a quest to save “El Presidente’s Daughter,” Guacamelee! has players smash, grab and pile drive enemies into a pulp as they travel through alternate dimensions, including “The World of the Living” and “The World of the Dead.” The game offers luchadores cross-save support between the PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita systems, as well as cooperative play for same-screen multiplayer throughout the entire story on PlayStation®3.

Guacamelee is rated E10 by the ESRB for:

  • Fantasy Violence
  • Use of Alcohol
