Deconstructing Elysium: Image Engine Takes Visual Effects Into The Future

spark cg [1]Join the Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH [2] chapter as Spark CG [3] proudly presents an evening session [4] on “Elysium [5]” by the Image Engine [6] team. The presentation, which takes place on Wednesday, October 23rd at the Vancouver International Film Centre, will be followed by a technical preview by Side Effects Software [7]. Beginning at 7:00pm, the presentation will focus on a key droid sequence and highlight how multiple departments came together to create one of the film’s most dynamic scenes.

VFX Producer Shawn Walsh will lead a conversation with Associate VFX Supervisor Andrew Chapman, Senior FX Artist Greg Massie and Lead Animator Earl Fast, to cover the creative and technical challenges with an in-depth breakdown of the visual effects.

Rob Stauffer will discuss how both film and game studios can load Houdini Digital Assets into their go-to applications and build a more integrated procedural pipeline that does not rely on baked-out data, using Houdini Engine [7], a new Side Effects technology.
