Award-winning Vancouver 3D animator TJ Galda adds to the series of books on Character Rigging with a beginner book outlining how to rig characters using computer graphics software such as Autodesk’s Maya. The book is designed to make the techniques as accessible as possible, so that beginners can create and animate lifelike characters. The Visual Effects Society Vancouver Section along with the Vancouver Economic Commission and the HR Screen Council Board are pleased to announce the date for the 2nd Annual VES Vancouver Career Fair at the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building. The Career Fair doors will be open from 11:00am through 4:00pm on Saturday, April 20th, with students welcome to attend after 2:00pm. Last year the VES Vancouver Job Fair hosted 1200 attendees and 20 exhibitors. This year the space has been expanded to accommodate over 30 exhibitors. Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. announced Friday the dismissal of a lawsuit in respect of alleged profit participation rights on the film Escape from Planet Earth, which was released in theatres on February 15th. Rainmaker and a subsidiary had been named as defendants, along with a number of other parties, in a suit filed in the New York Supreme Court. Rainmaker had previously obtained an indemnity from the copyright owner and the distributor of the film. On February 20, 2013, a Stipulation of Discontinuance was filed with the New York Supreme Court dismissing the litigation against all named parties and a mutual release was executed.

Canada’s Mercury Filmworks and Paris-based Technicolor have announced a development deal with TELETOON Canada for the animated comedy television series, Atomic Puppet. Mercury Filmworks, Technicolor and TELETOON will co-develop Atomic Puppet as a 2D animated comedy series targeting kids 6-11. Atomic Puppet was created by animated television writer Mark Drop (Matt Hatter Chronicles, Jake and the Never Land Pirates) and writer/creator Jerry Leibowitz (The Mouse and the Monster). DHX Media Ltd. is pleased to announce the renewal of the animated children’s series, Arthur, with Brazil’s TV Cultura, for a term of three years, for the third time since originally licensed in 2007. DHX will provide seasons one through six of Arthur, the lovable aardvark, via Media Mundi for the Brazilian market.
