Telefilm Canada has announced its support for the production of nine English- and French-language feature films from Quebec, Ontario, Nunavut and Western Canada through the Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF). A new investment of up to $626,000 from the Government of Canada will allow the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) to provide entrepreneurship training for up to 225 young entrepreneurs and seed funding to help launch up to 12 new innovative businesses in southern Ontario. Today the Canada Media Fund (CMF), in collaboration with Konrad Group, launched InnovaTV, a new online resource that takes an in-depth look at emerging technologies that enable producers to create TV content in new and innovative ways. With 12 presentations already being offered, this new resource provides developers, technologists and creators with a platform to share useful information on innovation and convergence in the television industry. The presentations already available include interviews on such topics as t-commerce (transactional interfaces related to digital TV content) and the influence of social networks on television consumption. Yesterday over 100 participants met with the Canada Media Fund (CMF) in Toronto as part of the first focus group of a cross-country consultation that includes stops in 18 cities, in all provinces and territories. Throughout the rest of the month of September, focus groups are being held in the Western provinces and territories. In October and November, the consultation will continue in other Canadian cities. The Province of BC recently launched iMapBC 2.0, an upgraded version of its popular online mapping toolkit that will provide improved access to thousands of geographical datasets. Information on the new iMapBC 2.0 will be available for delegates at this week’s Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) Conference in Whistler. Version 2.0 is a significant upgrade to the free, user-friendly web-mapping application, and provides a better experience for developers and end-users who want to use to government map data online.
