PNY And Red Barn Support The Animation Project – Visit PNY At SIGGRAPH In Vancouver

siggraph 2014The Animation Project (TAP) in New York has pioneered a novel and effective method for helping at-risk youth: Use digital art technology as a therapeutic medium and workforce development tool. To support this effort, PNY, Intel and Red Barn Technology Group contributed to the creation of a new classroom of graphics workstations to assist TAP in its endeavors.  Capitalizing on youth’s natural interest in new media, The Animation Project engages at-risk kids in digital art-fueled group therapy sessions that cultivate self-expression, improve self-esteem, enhance social and emotional coping skills—while simultaneously fostering the development of practical computer competencies that transfer to a variety of career and education paths. SIGGRAPH 2014 Releases Emerging Technologies Preview

siggraph 2014SIGGRAPH 2014, 10-14 August, has released its list of 2014 Emerging Technologies highlights to be featured at this year?s conference at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Out of almost 90 submissions to the program, 24 were accepted, with more than 20 pieces from submitters outside of the United States. Each year, SIGGRAPH-selected emerging technologies allow conference attendees to play with the latest interactive and graphics developments. The program also presents demonstrations of research in several fields — like displays, input devices, collaborative environments, and robotics — through Talks and a close partnership with the SIGGRAPH Studio. Over 15,000 artists, programmers, filmmakers, computer scientists, animators, game designers and others involved in computer graphics, film making, video games and hardware will be in Vancouver over the four days of the conference. Time To Recycle Those Old Cell Phones

cwtaRecycle My Cell, Canada’s free cell phone recycling program, is calling on Canadians from coast to coast to recycle their old cell phones and accessories in support of Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22. Almost 582,000 devices were recovered through the Recycle My Cell program in 2013. Results from the 2013 National Cell Phone Recycling Study released today show that while Canadians replace their wireless device approximately every 30 months, only 10% of survey respondents recycled their old device when they purchased a new one, with 42% putting the old device in storage.
