MaRS Discovery District is pleased to announce the appointment of Euan Robertson as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). The newly created role of President and COO comes at a key juncture in the evolution of MaRS. CDMN Canada 3.0 2013, Canada’s only national digital media conference focused on the commercialization of innovation, will feature world-class speakers, a wide-ranging program and showcase of Canadian entrepreneurship when it gets under way May 14 and 15, 2013 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Communitech‘s HyperDrive startup incubator has opened applications for its third cohort amid news that Incentivibe, a first-cohort HyperDrive company, has been acquired by Rebellion Media of Waterloo. Since its creation a year ago, HyperDrive has admitted 18 companies to the first two cohorts of its $30-million-plus program based at the Communitech Hub in Kitchener. The Sara Kirke Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is presented to the woman who has shown the most outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership — leadership that has significantly expanded the frontiers of Canada’s advanced technology industry. For the third consecutive year, the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) and Canadian innovative children’s toy and entertainment company Spin Master Ltd. have teamed up to launch the Spin Master Innovation Fund (SMIF), with up to $50,000 in start-up financing, a hand-matched mentor from CYBF’s industry-leading mentoring program and a trip to the Spin Master offices in Toronto to attend a two-day Innovation Launch Pad Workshop, with exclusive access to senior Spin Master executives. Applications open today and will offer qualified 18-39 year olds the opportunity to kick-start their innovative start-up business and are invited to apply online before May 21, 2013.
