The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada has announced its financial results for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2012, showing that an upsurge in cable, concerts and international performance helped drive compensation to songwriters and music publishers. The Visual Effects Society Vancouver Section along with the Vancouver Economic Commission and the HR Screen Council Board are pleased to announce the date for the 2nd Annual VES Vancouver Career Fair at the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building. The Career Fair doors will be open from 11:00am through 4:00pm on Saturday, April 20th, with students welcome to attend after 2:00pm. Last year the VES Vancouver Job Fair hosted 1200 attendees and 20 exhibitors. This year the space has been expanded to accommodate over 30 exhibitors. Save BC Film has released the first of its PSA videos. These videos feature some of Vancouver’s finest talent, including Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1), Pascale Hutton (Arctic Air on CBC), Garry Chalk (Fringe), Alvin Sanders, Terence H. Winkless (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Tyler Labine (Reaper), Victoria Bidewell (Comforting Skin the movie), Keith Dallas, Manooj Sood (Little Mosque on the Prairie). The video, which was produced as a volunteer effort, is designed to raise public awareness about the state of BC’s film and television industry and to educate people about tax incentives and how they benefit the province’s economy. The Historica-Dominion Institute has announced that James Harley Marsh will retire effective March 31 after 33 years as editor-in-chief of The Canadian Encyclopedia. In the course of his remarkable career, Mr. Marsh – the founding editor of the Encyclopedia – oversaw the publication of several print editions of The Canadian Encyclopedia (with over 700,000 volumes sold); the translation of the Encyclopedia into French, the integration into its content of the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada, and the adaptation of the Encyclopedia first to CD-ROM and then online. Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) is pleased to announce two new appointments to the organization; Joanne Stanley as Executive Director, and Janice McDonald as new board Chair. Ms. Stanley brings more than a decade of experience leading not for profit organizations, most recently as Co-founder and Executive Director of Canadian Women in Technology. Prior to that, Ms. Stanley held senior positions at the Ontario Centres of Excellence and Bell. The Canadian National Stock Exchange (CNSX) has announced a new strategic partnership with Innovate Calgary and Alberta Deal Generator (ADG). Innovate Calgary and CNSX have forged a partnership agreement to enhance and support the technology and startup sector in Canada.
