A new investment of up to $626,000 from the Government of Canada will allow the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) to provide entrepreneurship training for up to 225 young entrepreneurs and seed funding to help launch up to 12 new innovative businesses in southern Ontario. Future Shop‘s Future Generation Tech Lab Program is pleased to announce the 15 elementary schools across Canada who will receive funds to improve their classroom technology and elevate student learning. Today the Canada Media Fund (CMF), in collaboration with Konrad Group, launched InnovaTV, a new online resource that takes an in-depth look at emerging technologies that enable producers to create TV content in new and innovative ways. With 12 presentations already being offered, this new resource provides developers, technologists and creators with a platform to share useful information on innovation and convergence in the television industry. The presentations already available include interviews on such topics as t-commerce (transactional interfaces related to digital TV content) and the influence of social networks on television consumption. For CodeProject, one of the world’s largest online communities of software developers, it has been a summer full of celebrations. Members from around the world organized parties in countries such as Switzerland, Israel, India, Brazil and the United States. Members met, shared memories and celebrated the community that they have helped build. CodeProject also engaged its members by creating a “why do you love CodeProject?” contest that gave members the chance to create a video or submit a photo meme for a chance to win a $10,000 prize pack. Fifteen open, online textbooks in subject areas ranging from math and chemistry to marketing, psychology, and business have been reviewed by post-secondary faculty and are now freely available for download from BCcampus. More than 38 instructors and professors from post-secondary institutions around the province reviewed existing open textbooks for quality and relevance in British Columbia. OrcaJam 4, a signature event brought to Thinklandia Festival by LevelUP, an organization determined to keep the local game design community in touch with each other, is helping to bridge the gap between emerging programmers, artists, writers, developers and those who are already leaving their mark on the city. SIGGRAPH 2014 will take place next 12-14 August in Vancouver, and if you book your space now, you’ll pay only $37.00 USD per square foot with a 10% deposit due on booking. The price goes up on September 4th to $38.00 per square foot, and a 50% deposit will be required to secure your space if you apply after September 12th. Exhibit applications submitted after February 15, 2014 will require payment in full. SIGGRAPH 2014 in Vancouver is an incredible marketing opportunity for Canadian companies – this is your chance to show off Canadian talent and innovation to a global audience – on our own turf.
