A preferred proponent has been selected for the Emily Carr University of Art + Design campus redevelopment project, marking an important step toward a new home for the university at Great Northern Way. Applied Arts Team and its design partners have been selected as the preferred proponent that will enter into final negotiations with Emily Carr University of Art + Design to deliver the project. The new CMF Trends website is now the flagship destination for all blog posts, research studies, video interviews and white papers previously located on cmf-fmc.ca. The site is designed to merge CMF’s blog Trendscape, the Industry research section, and the Crowdfunding online resource all of which were previously hosted on the CMF website. This week, British Columbia takes centre stage to demonstrate the province’s growing strength in technology and digital arts during SIGGRAPH 2014, the world’s foremost computer graphics and art conference held at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Vancouver first hosted SIGGRAPH in 2011 and is the only city outside of the U.S.A. that has ever been selected for the North American conference. Voices.com will be exhibiting at the SIGGRAPH 2014 conference and exhibition in Vancouver at the Vancouver Convention Centre, with the exhibition component taking place August 12th to the 14th. Voices is part of a delegation representing the province of Ontario. SIGGRAPH’s commercial exhibition attracts hundreds of exhibitors from around the world. The Animation Project (TAP) in New York has pioneered a novel and effective method for helping at-risk youth: Use digital art technology as a therapeutic medium and workforce development tool. To support this effort, PNY, Intel and Red Barn Technology Group contributed to the creation of a new classroom of graphics workstations to assist TAP in its endeavors. Capitalizing on youth’s natural interest in new media, The Animation Project engages at-risk kids in digital art-fueled group therapy sessions that cultivate self-expression, improve self-esteem, enhance social and emotional coping skills—while simultaneously fostering the development of practical computer competencies that transfer to a variety of career and education paths.
