Vote For Your Favourite Cartoon Animal At Teletoon Retro

teletoon retroLion-O, Tweety and Yogi, oh my! TELETOON Retro is asking viewers to vote for their favourite cartoon animals of all-time to be inducted into the TELETOON Retro Hall of Fame as the Top 5 Awesome Animals. Between now and Monday, August 1, viewers can vote online for their favourite cartoon critters and maybe a place in TELETOON Retro history. Following the voting period, the Top 5 Awesome Animals will be announced on Friday, August 5, followed by a special programming marathon featuring the Top 5 as part of the “Retro Rewind” programming block on Sunday, August 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET on TELETOON Retro.

TELETOON Retro has narrowed the field to 30 classic animated animals and is inviting fans to make their picks for the Top 5 Awesome Animals of all-time. The list of nominees is made up of the following classic cartoon characters:

  • Astro (The Jetsons)
  • Azrael (The Smurfs)
  • Boo Boo (The Yogi Bear Show)
  • Brain (Inspector Gadget)
  • Bugs Bunny (The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show)
  • Bullwinkle (The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle)
  • Cheetara (Thundercats)
  • The Chicken Hawk (The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show)
  • Daffy Duck (The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show)
  • Dino (The Flintstones)
  • Foghorn Leghorn (The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show)
  • Huckleberry Hound (The Huckleberry Hound Show)
  • Jerry (The Tom & Jerry Show)
  • Lion-O (Thundercats)
  • Pepe Le Pew (The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show)

To help kick off the Top 5 Awesome Animals campaign, TELETOON Retro is holding themed weekend events at the Granby Zoo in Granby, QC, July 1-3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Toronto Zoo, July 9-10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event weekends will give TELETOON Retro fans the chance to meet Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo and to have their photos taken with them.

The TELETOON Retro Hall of Fame Top 5 Awesome Animals campaign runs in English on TELETOON Retro and in French on TÉLÉTOON Rétro. While the third campaign of its kind for the English-language service, the Top 5 Awesome Animals marks the launch of the TELETOON Retro Hall of Fame for the French-language service, featuring a separate list of TÉLÉTOON Rétro cartoon animal nominees.

The Top 5 Awesome Animals will join the TELETOON Retro Hall of Fame alongside the Top 5 favourite cartoon characters of all time and the Top 5 Sweethearts as chosen by the fans in December 2010 and February 2011, respectively. The Top 5 favourite characters of all time were Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, Optimus Prime, Batman and Spider-man, while the Top 5 Sweethearts include Fred and Daphne (Scooby-Doo!), Batman and Catwoman, Alvin and Britney (Alvin & The Chipmunks), Scooby-Doo and Shaggy and Optimus Prime and Elita One.

Coinciding with the Top 5 Awesome Animals campaign, TELETOON Retro will be available in free preview to Rogers, Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct, TELUS and Videotron digital television subscribers throughout the month of July. During this period, TELETOON Retro will also have a dedicated page through Rogers On Demand Online featuring episodes of Casper & Friends, Real Ghostbusters, The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra, Princess of Power.
