PREVNet Introduces Online Resource for Bullying and Violence Prevention

Dr. Debra Pepler, Co-Director of PREVNet and Professor of Psychology at York University, will deliver opening remarks and explain PREVNet’s work to promote healthy relationships and prevent violence in Canada. Tim Hutchinson, Director of the Chronic Disease Interventions Division, Public Health Agency of Canada, will also speak about the role and value of the Canadian Best Practices Portal for all front-line workers working with children, seniors, and families. Guest speakers will include Shannon Adams, Vice Principal of Ridgemont High School and Dr. Claire Crooks, Associate Director of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health – Centre for Prevention Science (CAMH-CPS) and an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children at the University of Western Ontario.
Teachers and students will demonstrate how scientifically-proven bullying and violence prevention programs can be accessed online and how they can be implemented to meet the needs and the environment of schools or community-based organizations across the country. The demonstration will feature the ‘Fourth R’ program, a violence prevention program from CAMH-CPS, as an example of a program that can be accessed through the Portal.
