Lionsgate entertainment company has announced that it is teaming with global financier and philanthropist Frank Giustra, who founded Lionsgate and served as its Chairman for six years, and his Vancouver-based Thunderbird Films television production, distribution and financing company in a television partnership to produce programming for broadcast and cable networks as part of the ongoing diversification of Lionsgate’s television business. Canada’s Public Policy Forum has released Leading Innovation: Insights from Canadian Regions, a report from an initiative which sought to uncover what makes some of Canada’s key regions more innovative, and what lessons can be learned from these leading examples. Seven sessions were convened in regions across the country over the course of six-months featuring participation of entrepreneurs, business leaders, policy makers and researchers. The report is the result of a collaborative venture between the Public Policy Forum, BMO Financial Group, Deloitte, Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), the Government of Ontario and the Canadian Tourism Commission. After compiling more than 3,400 votes, TVO is proud to announce that the winner of its first-ever Doc Studio Contest is Coty Forth’s Emmaline (Lighthouse), which is the story about Emmaline Madigan, the last lighthouse keeper of Point Au Baril in Ontario. At 17, Emmaline married the lighthouse keeper, and moved into the lighthouse, where they would raise their six kids. After her husband’s death, she took over his duties and became the new keeper. Evicted in 1993, as new technology made her job obsolete, her desire to maintain her life in the lighthouse remained and so did her fighting spirit. Read the rest of this entry »
