Digital Alberta’s Prestigious Awards Return For Third Year

digital alberta [1]The Digital Alberta Awards [2], now in its third year, is a ceremony designed to recognize leaders in innovation, creativity and the evolving digital sector in Alberta. Award submissions [3] are now open until May 15th. This year’s categories include companies, individual entrepreneurs, student and education leaders, organizations in both the government and not for profit sector, and those whose industry sectors may not traditionally be considered in the realm of ‘digital media’, but are pioneering and raising the bar as they converge with technology.

The purpose of the awards program is to celebrate leaders in innovation, creativity and the evolving digital media sector in Alberta who are leading the way nationally and globally. The program includes 16 categories [4] ranging from philanthropy, film, software, community and education, television and gaming, mobile and start-ups, design and creative, to marketing and social media. This event is an excellent opportunity for digital leaders to network, learn and promote new connections between industries.

“Now in our third year, we are able to expand our reach of categories,” said Digital Alberta [5] President Michelle Sklar. “Over the past years we have significantly advanced the knowledge of the digital industry both nationally and globally. We are also excited about the returning People’s Choice Award. The board and judges look forward to showcasing another class of amazing companies and individuals.”

Returning this year is the People’s Choice Award [6] for the most inspirational digital leader. In 2012, the honour was awarded to Kurtis Lesick, director at Creative Environment for Emerging Electronic Culture and faculty at the Alberta College of Art + Design. Each year this prize is awarded to an individual who is an advocate, visionary, creative, teacher, technologist and entrepreneur whose efforts in Alberta’s digital space deserve to be honoured. This inspirational technology tycoon will be nominated and selected [6] by his or her peers in the digital community through an online vote. The winner will be announced live at the event at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton on Sunday June 2 at 6 pm.
