The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has announced a contribution of $4.4M to twelve projects that applied to the Aboriginal Program’s first round of funding. The funds were distributed amongst 12 projects—three Children’s & Youth productions and nine documentaries, all of which have a digital media component.
Amongst the 12 projects, two are from Alberta; one from British Columbia; one from Manitoba; one from the Northwest Territories; two from Nunavut; four from Quebec; and, one interprovincial co-production between Quebec and New Brunswick. Of the 12 projects, 10 were triggered by the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), one by the Nunavut Independent Television Network, and one by Super Channel, a new broadcaster within this program designed to support Aboriginal-language production in Canada. Since 2010, the CMF has provided more than $25M to 64 Aboriginal projects. The deadline for the Aboriginal Program’s second round of production funding is September 24, 2013.
