MIGS 2013 Welcomes Chris Avellone As Keynote Speaker

MIGSMontreal International Game Summit (MIGS) is delighted to welcome Chris Avellone from Obsidian Entertainment as keynote speaker, a wonderful first time addition for the MIGS 10th edition celebration. MIGS will rally a great number of key gaming industry players portraying over 60 conference sessions, exhibition floor, career fair, contests and activities for an expected audience of 2,000.

Chris Avellone, Creative Director and co-owner of Obsidian Entertainment started his career as a freelancer before Interplay hired him as game designer in 1996. He worked on Black Isle projects including Torment, Fallout 2 and the Icewind Dale series and was Lead Designer on Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. In his keynote session entitled: Developing Old School RPGs using New School Models: Kickstarter Development, Chris will focus on the next wave of old school RPGs, including inXile’s Wasteland 2, Project: Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera. He will cover methodology process, and development contrasting with traditional publisher model.

“I’ve always wanted to attend MIGS, speaker or not, and now that my schedule is more forgiving I’m eager at the chance to discuss the benefits and challenges of Kickstater and crowd sourced projects,” confessed Chris. Sometimes called “non-toxic and occasionally friendly to others”, Chris is looking forward to interact with participants as he underlines: “I’d love to see what questions I can answer; MIGS is a great opportunity for discussing game development methods throughout the industry.”

“In March 2013, we initiated communications with Québec government in hopes to widen projects and small company financing to include equity crowdfunding. As Chris’ Kickstarter projects achieved millions of dollars in fund-raising, they embody success stories that will be an additional morale booster for game designers. I am truly happy to have Chris Avellone as a key speaker at the MIGS 2013,” said Serge Landry, Alliance numérique Director.

For its 10th edition, Chris Avellone is a great match with MIGS 2013, reaching for news opportunities to promote projects’ diversity, innovation and stimulate participants’ creativity. Complete profile for MIGS speakers and sessions can be found here: MIGS 2013 Speaker List. Preferential rate Industry professional Alliance numérique members receive a 40% discount if registered before July 31st; more information is available online.
