New App Makes Print Textbook Pages Come To Life On A Mobile Device

pearsonPrint textbook pages come to life with today’s launch of Pearson BouncePages. Now available on any mobile app store, this free app allows parents, teachers, and students to instantly launch interactive instructional content directly from a textbook page. The app was developed in collaboration with Layar, an international developer of mobile augmented reality and interactive print media with an office in Toronto.

By simply snapping a picture of a pre-tagged textbook page on a mobile device, students discover interactive content illustrating the concept being taught. Engaging and educational, the interactive content includes friendly characters, entertaining scenarios, and effective explanations of the material. These features personalize student learning and provide interactive tools that allow students to practice what they are learning.

“While there may continue to be a great debate about the future of print textbooks, this new integration of print and digital is illustrative of the ways that these learning resources can be combined to enhance and personalize student learning,” said Pearson’s Senior Vice President Mike Evans. “Imagine a student sitting at home reading a print textbook and with a simple click of her smartphone, she is immersed in a multimedia learning experience.”

Pearson’s enVisionMATH Texas 2.0 is the first instructional program to feature BouncePages in the Student Edition, Grades K–5. Each grade level features 120 pre-tagged lesson pages that instantly change static print pages into an interactive, digital learning experience.

Features:

  • Easy To Scan: Every page has been tested to ensure instant recognition and the immediate launch of the accompanying animation.
  • Engaging, Interactive, and Educational: The animations include friendly characters, entertaining scenarios, and effective explanations of the material. They allow students to go at their own pace and feature interactive math tools that let students practice what they just learned.
  • Straightforward and Relevant: The animations and practice opportunities use real-world situations to demonstrate the material in a way that students can easily relate to.
  • Hassle-Free: There’s no need to journey to the computer or create another online account that you’ll probably forget anyway. All you need is your book and your mobile device to launch the animations.

Layar CEO Quintin Schevernels said, “We have already begun to see many students, teachers, schools and universities embrace augmented reality as a helpful educational tool. Partnering with a leading educational company like Pearson is an important step toward bringing the value of augmented reality and interactive print to learning and education.”

The free BouncePages app is available for iOS and Android devices on the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.

iOS device compatibility: Requires iOS 5.1 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad Wi-Fi (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi (4th generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (4th generation), iPad mini Wi-Fi, iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPod touch (4th generation) and iPod touch (5th generation).
