The Entertainment Software Association of Canada Is Looking For A VP – Policy Candidate

ESACThe Entertainment Software Association of Canada is looking for a Vice-President, Policy candidate who could become an expert on video game law and policy within Canada. Reporting to the President & CEO and working within an effective and dynamic team based in Toronto, the Vice-President, Policy will represent the Canadian video game industry through monitoring, analyzing and influencing issues and legislation affecting the industry in Canada and internationally.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working with President & CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement government relation strategies to promote and protect industry interests
  • Developing policy positions in partnership with ESAC members
  • Drafting policy papers, submissions, briefs and other materials
  • Working with partner organizations and external counsel on legislation, regulations and government policies affecting the development, sale and marketing of entertainment software products, services and platforms in Canada, including intellectual property, international trade, privacy, e-commerce, marketing and advertising, video game regulation, finance and tax incentives, immigration and skills development, etc
  • Providing advice and support to the President & CEO on policy matters
  • Working with the President & CEO on federal and provincial government relations matters
  • Representing ESAC at government and industry meetings and events in Canada and abroad

With a keen interest in technology, media and public policy, the candidate is a proactive self-starter who is ready to roll up his or her sleeves and tackle a variety of projects. The candidate is a strategic thinker, adept at analyzing complex issues as well as implementing practical solutions, and enjoys the challenge of growing and maintaining his or her expertise in a constantly evolving industry environment. Specifically you have the following:

  • Knowledge and/or experience in government affairs and policy
  • Experience analyzing complex legal and policy matters and strategy development
  • A proactive self-starter that works well independently and collaboratively as part of a small but effective informal team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive, motivated and enthusiastic with an interest in working in a cutting-edge entertainment industry and in helping to build an organization
  • Thorough understanding of all levels of government
  • Knowledge and/or keen interest in technology and the video game industry
  • Eligibility to be registered as a federal lobbyist
  • Ability to work in ESAC’s office in Toronto or remotely from Ottawa

A minimum of seven years of relevant experience gained working in government, public policy or government relations. A legal or business degree would be an asset. Bilingualism in English and French is required.
