Parallax Films Secure New International Discovery Network Deals

parallax film productions [1]Award-winning Canadian indie documentary producers Ian Herring and Maija Leivo of Parallax Film Productions [2] are pleased to announce new licensing deals with Discovery Network International territories Latin America, Discovery Asia, Discovery CEMEA (Central Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Discovery Italy for their latest TV series Bahama Blue. Bahama Blue is an innovative six-part television series using 4Kcamera technology to capture the classical beauty of dolphins and sharks, as well as unprecedented natural history events. Parallax kicks off principal photography this month, exploring the islands of the Bahamas through the award winning lenses of Andy Brandy Casagrande, Mark Rackley and Sean White.

Past the white sand beaches and beneath idyllic turquoise water lays one of the fiercest natural habitats in the world. Because of its picture perfect beauty, we are drawn into a world where life and death unfolds in a natural and at times horrifying order. The series focuses on how this struggle plays out within the unique geographical features of the Bahamas including Mangroves, Deep Blue Water, Sand Flats, Coral, as well as Caves and Blue Holes; features that both define and interact with the diverse wildlife.

During the filming process, the underwater cinematographers take extra steps to film with the least environmental impact to capture up close and first-ever natural history moments. The dive team uses closed-circuit rebreathers to keep the underwater ‘bubble & noise’ footprint to a minimum and wear top-of- the-line scuba gear to ensure accurate buoyancy movements in the water to blend in with the natural state of sea life. Mini-cams and specialty GoPro camera rigs make the filmmakers presence virtually invisible to sea life allowing the divers to capture angles that could not be shot with larger format cameras. This specialized camera equipment requires less power for charging and overall hardware, therefore creating a smaller carbon footprint. World Oceans Day [3] is celebrated June 8th and Oceans Week in Canada [4] is June 1st to 8th.

Parallax Films wildlife series is being produced for Oasis in Canada, a Blue Ant Media Channel, and is working with London Based factual distributor TVF to represent their blue-chip production internationally. ‘Bahama Blue’ will premiere on OASIS in Canada in early 2015.

“We’re so excited to announce our partnership with Parallax Films and the start of principal photography on this beautiful 4K escape into the blue waters of the Bahamas,” says Marcia Martin, SVP of Original Content for Blue Ant Media. “Producers, Ian and Maija will bring a quality and depth to this program that will make this truly special for our Oasis audience.”

With full local access and cooperation, Bahama Blue promises an unprecedented experience for viewers to explore unknown corners of this tropical paradise.
