Oasis Animation is proud to announce that it has concluded a deal with PBS station WGBH for the production of 16 new episodes of Martha Speaks, an animated PBS KIDS television series for kids ages 4-7. Oasis will provide the preproduction, digital animation and postproduction services on the series, from its Montreal studios. This production will create 70 new jobs in Quebec. In response to the growth of Canada’s video game industry, CDI College is launching the Game Development and Design program at its campus in Toronto. The program is currently is accepting applications for the 72 week program. Upon graduation, students will have assembled an impressive portfolio that showcases their artistic talents and technical abilities. Grads will be able to apply for jobs with game development studios, video game design companies and computer animation studios. An all-star cast of Emmy award-winner Katherine Heigl, Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Stephen Lang, Sarah Gadon, and comedian Jeff Dunham have signed on to lend their voices for the animated comedy feature The Nut Job, directed by Peter Lepeniotis for ToonBox Entertainment and Redrover Co., Ltd. Based on the 2005 award-winning comedy short film Surly Squirrel by Disney animation veteran Lepeniotis, The Nut Job marks the Canadian-based ToonBox’s first feature film with Korean partner Redrover, in association with Gulfstream Pictures, which is handling U.S. sales. All dressed in their spookiest finery, extravagant, exotic and flamboyant, the Pumpkins make their way to the Haunted Halloween Ball, where Toon Boom is hosting its annual Halloween Animation Contest. Using a free copy of Flip Boom Doodle, dress up your eeriest Pumpkin in its creepiest clothes and make it dance at the macabre Haunted Halloween Ball. Animators of all skill levels and ages are invited to create their own dancing Pumpkin! Winners will receive an iPad or a copy of Toon Boom Studio. Today at Cannes the Canada Media Fund (CMF) featured Canada’s leading-edge and innovative transmedia series, games, software and mobile applications made specifically for children and youth. The Canada Media Fund’s Catalina Briceno, Director of Industry and Market Trends, presented a special screening of ten outstanding projects representative of Canada’s creative screen-based industry geared towards the youth market. Last year alone, the CMF committed a total of $79 million to 128 projects targeting the children’s and youth market, presented on television or developed for digital platforms.
