Frank D’Angelo‘s first movie production – Real Gangsters, a star-filled mob film – continues to receive accolades by picking up four more awards this past weekend at the ‘Action on Film International Film Festival’ in Pasadena California, including Best Teleplay, Best Screenplay, Best Soundtrack and Best Picture. The film was nominated for a total eight awards including Best Supporting Actress for Margot Kidder’s role. Toronto-based DeveloperMedia‘s software dev online community CodeProject has announced that Phil Lee is the grand prize winner of its recent Windows Azure Developer Challenge. Over $16,000 in prizes was awarded to 21 individuals throughout the 10-week Windows Azure Developer Challenge. The contest pitted developers from across the globe against each other in five stages of competitions that incorporated tasks like building a website, using SQL, spinning virtual machines, and building responsive mobile access for their Azure apps. Producers of the Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs) announced yesterday afternoon that the fifth edition will take place in April 2014 in Toronto. This national award show celebrates excellence in Canadian-made video games and has been held in Vancouver for the past four years. Ten Canadian women directors and actors who have had an outstanding year have been selected for tribute by a pan-Canadian selection committee made up of journalists specializing in the arts, culture and entertainment. The 10 women will be honoured on September 11, 2013, at the Maison Birks’ Bloor Street W. store in Toronto during the inaugural Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film, in partnership with Telefilm Canada. Directors Louise Archambault, Deepa Mehta, Alanis Obomsawin, Sarah Polley and Chloé Robichaud, as well as actresses Évelyne Brochu, Geneviève Bujold, Sarah Gadon, Jessica Paré and Alison Pill, were selected for this honour.
