The Canada Media Fund (CMF) congratulates the winners of the 28th prix Gémeaux who received awards on September 12 and 15. With these awards, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT) recognizes the outstanding work of industry professionals in the French language market. The Academy nominated 77 CMF-funded projects that received a combined total of 273 nominations. Of those, 29 productions won a total of 60 Gémeaux Awards, including top winners such as Bye Bye 2012, 19-2, O’, and Tu m’aimes-tu and the People’s Choice Award winner Unité 9. Yesterday over 100 participants met with the Canada Media Fund (CMF) in Toronto as part of the first focus group of a cross-country consultation that includes stops in 18 cities, in all provinces and territories. Throughout the rest of the month of September, focus groups are being held in the Western provinces and territories. In October and November, the consultation will continue in other Canadian cities. OrcaJam 4, a signature event brought to Thinklandia Festival by LevelUP, an organization determined to keep the local game design community in touch with each other, is helping to bridge the gap between emerging programmers, artists, writers, developers and those who are already leaving their mark on the city. Xbox Live Games with Gold is bringing you more free games this month for Xbox 360. Xbox Live Gold members worldwide can download two new titles for free for a limited time starting Sunday. The September line-up of titles includes Magic 2013, available September 1st through 15th, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas from Ubisoft Montreal & Ubisoft Quebec, which will be available September 16th through 30th. As announced on August 6, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) will embark on a cross-country consultation this fall as part of a comprehensive consultation process. The consultation includes focus groups in 18 cities, in all provinces and territories. The following calendar was updated to reflect times and locations for each focus group. The CMF’s focus groups will be led by Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, Stéphane Cardin, Vice President, Industry and Public Affairs or Nathalie Clermont, Director of Program Management. Ten Canadian women directors and actors who have had an outstanding year have been selected for tribute by a pan-Canadian selection committee made up of journalists specializing in the arts, culture and entertainment. The 10 women will be honoured on September 11, 2013, at the Maison Birks’ Bloor Street W. store in Toronto during the inaugural Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film, in partnership with Telefilm Canada. Directors Louise Archambault, Deepa Mehta, Alanis Obomsawin, Sarah Polley and Chloé Robichaud, as well as actresses Évelyne Brochu, Geneviève Bujold, Sarah Gadon, Jessica Paré and Alison Pill, were selected for this honour.
