Announced earlier this week (yes, Friday is my catch-up on the news day) was the Canadian International Television Festival (CITF), which will open on November 16, 2013 with Bell Media, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) as key supporters. Producers of the Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs) announced yesterday afternoon that the fifth edition will take place in April 2014 in Toronto. This national award show celebrates excellence in Canadian-made video games and has been held in Vancouver for the past four years. At a launch reception held today at the Drake Hotel, industry leaders, government officials, sponsors and media gathered to celebrate the announcement that the show would move east for the first time in 2014. The Casual Games Association (CGA) has announced that it will feature the first North American Indie Prize Showcase at its Casual Connect Conference in San Francisco. The event, launched earlier this year at Casual Connect Europe and Asia events, is expected to feature new games from more than 100 indie development teams. The Indie Prize Showcase is a free program created to reward the industry’s top independent development talent with resources, relationships and recognition. For the first North American event, more than 100 games will be featured on-site at Casual Connect by the development teams who created them.
