343 Industries, Xbox 360 and Virgin Gaming are teaming up again to launch the “Halo 4” Global Championship, a summer-long tournament that will give gamers around the world a chance to battle* for glory and win $500,000 in prizes, including a grand prize of $200,000. Spanning multiple live events and five weeks of online competition on Xbox Live, the tournament is the biggest “Halo 4” competition yet, and will kick off at the Rooster Teeth Expo on July 5 and on Xbox Live on July 15. In support of the upcoming theatrical release of Guillermo del Toro’s new sci-fi action adventure “Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim,” eight North American coastal cities along the Pacific Rim are joining in to host monster-sized, family-friendly beach clean-up events on Thursday, July 11. Warner Bros., along with local media partners, RealD, various eco-friendly organizations and local parks and recreation departments, is encouraging people to join the clean-up efforts. They will award the first 100 participants at each local clean-up event two tickets to see the film in RealD 3D on opening weekend, as well as a special “Pacific Rim” t-shirt made of recycled materials, courtesy of RealD, and other prizes. On the heels of yet another sold out success in PyCon 2013, the conference organizers are happy to announce the new website and Call for Proposals for PyCon 2014. The new site is now live and accepting talk, tutorial, and poster proposals for the April 9-17 2014 conference taking place in Montréal. The first time north of the border brings a change to the call: lightning talk proposals are now being accepted in advance. PyCon’s first trip into Canada, not to be confused with PyCon Canada, ventures into Quebec for a great week at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, in the Old Montréal area. Unlike years past, the conference center isn’t tied to a specific hotel, so the organizers have currently worked out group rates with the Hyatt Regency and Westin hotels in Montréal.
