Autodesk Inc. has announced the release of “Starforce Battlement,” a new 2D mobile tower defense game developed by the Autodesk Gameware team using the Autodesk Scaleform Mobile Software Development Kit (SDK) and Autodesk 3ds Max software. Created as a proof-of-concept game, “Starforce Battlement” is an engrossing mobile experience that demonstrates the latest capabilities of the Scaleform Mobile SDK. It is available today on iOS as a free iPad download and will be available on Android devices this year. The inventing team of Gary and Brian Shuster received their 80thpatent this week, Patent #8,276,071 for “Multi-Instance, Multi-User Animation Platforms”, a method for the creation of “parallel dimensions so as to prevent over-population of any one of the parallel dimensions” in a Virtual-Reality Universe. While this invention may not solve the over-population problems of the real world, it does solve the over-population problems of virtual worlds, allowing “massively multiplayer” environments to host thousands or even millions of users in the same virtual area, or to attend the same virtual event. As those of you who follow us on Twitter will be well aware, DigiBC hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday night for the BC game development community. It was encouraging to see such an excellent turnout for the event, and kudos to Whitney and Carly for putting the event together. The evening featured a panel of local creative devs with Lance Davis taking on the role of moderator. Opening remarks for the evening were presented by Rick Griffiths, Audit and Assurance Group partner with PwC. I will touch on only a few of the highlights from the evening, simply because the conversation moved quite quickly and because we did tape the event.
