Mobile game developer XMG Studio Inc., Electric Playground and The Globe and Mail have teamed up to challenge all Canadian students to compete in the largest ‘hackathon’ in Canadian developer history – the Great Canadian Appathon is a race against the clock to create the next hit mobile game in under 48 hours. Over the weekend of September 28th students will gather at more than 40 participating university and college ‘HUBS’ across Canada. The teams will work around the clock and compete for a $25,000 first place prize, $5,000 second place prize, as well as 10 category winners who will receive a special edition Xbox Halo 4 Edition, generously provided by Microsoft. Di-O-Matic, a Montreal-based developer of user friendly character animation software, has announced the launch Voice-O-Matic v2 (Maya Edition). Di-O-Matic heard the call from animators. Gamercamp returns to Toronto for its fourth edition this November 3rd and 4th at the beautiful Isabel Bader Theatre, with some of the top names working in the games industry. Festival director Jaime Woo has announced that Ken Yeung, lead programmer of the award-winning Super T.I.M.E. Force, and Pat Redding, lead game designer of the highly-anticipated Splinter Cell: Black List, as well as artists from NYU’s acclaimed No Quarter exhibition are the latest talent additions to the 2012 roster, joining already-announced Deus Ex: Human Revolution lead writer Mary DeMarle, Papo & Yo creative director Vander Caballero, and Dyad creator Shawn McGrath.
