The Canada Media Fund (CMF) thas announced a new resource for creators and producers of digital media content, resulting from a research partnership with Screen Australia and supported by the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA). The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the Harper Government’s intention to introduce legislation creating the Canadian Museum of History, the first in a series of measures on the road to Canada’s 150thbirthday in 2017. In order to achieve this, the Harper Government plans to introduce amendments to the Museums Act to change the name and mandate of the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Minister Moore made the announcement at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in the presence of the Museum’s Board of Trustees, Museum staff, eminent Canadian historians, and members of historical associations from across Canada. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) would like to remind the industry that the English Production Incentive (EPI) program will combine any unspent funds remaining in any provinces\territories on October 16th. The remaining funds will be accessible to projects from any 2012-2013 eligible province\territory on a first-come first served basis starting October 17th. Today at Cannes the Canada Media Fund (CMF) featured Canada’s leading-edge and innovative transmedia series, games, software and mobile applications made specifically for children and youth. The Canada Media Fund’s Catalina Briceno, Director of Industry and Market Trends, presented a special screening of ten outstanding projects representative of Canada’s creative screen-based industry geared towards the youth market. Last year alone, the CMF committed a total of $79 million to 128 projects targeting the children’s and youth market, presented on television or developed for digital platforms. The Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN), in partnership with its nodes across Canada, has announced the official launch of its Soft-Landing Program which enables companies to explore and capitalize on global business opportunities. Participants in the pilot phase of the program have already had success over the past eight months and, with today’s official launch, CDMN announces support for up to 20 companies to participate in the next program round starting in January, 2013. Some leading websites in Canada are inappropriately “leaking” registered users’ personal information – including names, email addresses and postal codes – to third-party sites such as advertising companies, research by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada has found. The leakage identified in the testing occurred in a way that would be invisible to most people using these websites.
