The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced on Monday the nomination of David McLennan to the CMF’s Board of Directors following the General Assembly held in Montreal last Wednesday. Mr. McLennan has more than 20 years’ experience as a senior business executive. He joined Sierra Wireless in 2004 as Chief Financial Officer and Secretary. SIGGRAPH 2014 is pleased to announce the 41st annual Computer Animation Festival award recipients for Best in Show, Jury Award, Best Student Project, Best Animated Short, and Best Visual Effects, among others. More than 100 pieces will be shown during the Computer Animation Festival at the Vancouver Convention Centre, 10-14 August. Vancouver studio Megalodon Interactive, founded in 2013 by Tyler Goodbrand and Matt Linsangan, has released its debut title on iTunes at the launch price of 99 cents USD (that’s a 50% discount). Across the Table – Hockey is a same-screen 2-player hockey game for iPad, combining air hockey and table hockey. Imagine playing table hockey, but with the added speed and freedom of air hockey. This summer, Disney Junior is giving kids something to quack about with the premiere of the network’s first-ever original movie, Lucky Duck. Debuting Saturday, July 12 at 6 p.m. ET the animated musical film features the voices of Broadway and television stars Christian Borle, Megan Hilty (both of Smash) and Tom Cavanagh (Royal Pains) as a trio of misfit tub toys who embark on an epic journey to find kids who will love them, just the way they are. Leading up to the premiere, viewers will be treated to un-bill-lievable episodes of the brand new short series Sarah & Duck, weekdays at 5:55 p.m. ET beginning on Monday, July 7. Canadian cinema is once again making a name for itself beyond our borders with a selection of seven films at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, in the Czech Republic. The films Je suis à toi by David Lambert, a minority Canadian coproduction with Belgium, and Violent by Andrew Huculiak will be shown in competition and also make their world premieres in the Official Selection and Forum of Independents sections, respectively. In the non-competitive sections, the documentary Earth’s Golden Playground by Andreas Horvath, Pierrot Lunaire by Bruce LaBruce, and Que ta joie demeure by Denis Côté will allow Canadian cinema to shine brightly on Czech territory. Lastly, in the wake of his Jury Prize for Mommy during the past Cannes Festival, Xavier Dolan’s last two films will be presented in the Horizons section. Read the rest of this entry »

ACM SIGGRAPH has announced the selection of Elliot Kotek, co-founder of Not Impossible Labs, as the keynote speaker at SIGGRAPH 2014, the 41st International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, 10-14 August 2014 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The current content chief and co-founder of Not Impossible Labs, and editor-in-chief of Not Impossible Now, Kotek is also the founder and editor-in-chief of Beyond Cinema and the former editor-in-chief of both Moving Pictures and Celebs.com.
