Yoshi’s iconic green-dotted eggs have grown to gargantuan size in the Yoshi’s New Island game, launching for Nintendo 3DS on March 14 – and check out the info below on Yoshi’s Spring Tour. In his new platforming adventure, Yoshi once again moves from sidekick to hero and traverses a wide variety of worlds on a new island to help Baby Mario reunite with his kidnapped brother. Yoshi’s New Island is the third game in the beloved Yoshi’s Island series and features inventive new transformations, giant new eggs, colourful new art styles and a fun new multiplayer mode. Pixelmatic has announced the worldwide simultaneous launch of Gem Wizard for iOS and Android devices. Gem Wizard is a new match-3 title that uniquely combines blitz gem popping gameplay with RPG item collection and crafting mechanics. In Gem Wizard, players can send free gifts and compete with their friends in a Weekly Battle tournament. Players are rewarded with gems and materials after each game, which can be combined through a simple match-3 crafting system to create mighty weapons and high level mystical gems. Following the recent opening of the Barrick Gold Corporation Gallery at the Royal Ontario Museum, the ROMining Game App is now live. The gallery, located in the ROM’s Teck Suite of Galleries: Earth’s Treasures (Level 2), is an interactive 600 square foot space, with multi-touch, animated displays, multi-media presentations and more. At the heart of this new gallery is the Challenge of Mining game. Featuring a multi-touch table, the game can be played by up to eight players in the Museum and another four mobile players, by downloading the newly available ROMining Game App. An inter-generational experience, the game requires players to choose a specific character, representative of a mining stakeholder (miner, local community member among them) and, working together, players are challenged to “manage” a successful, ethical, and productive mining operation. Releasing today, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze returns fans to a world full of familiar challenges and rewards with new enemies and new abilities – and a reminder that in DK’s world, timing truly is everything. In fact, some levels in this latest iteration of the franchise bring a stark truism to the adage “he who hesitates is lost” because in some levels there really isn’t any time to look around. It took me more than a few lives to get through some levels, as the difficulty at times seemed to ramp up rather quickly – sometimes frustratingly so – but it’s also easy to rack up a healthy store of “back-up lives” in this game, so it’s all good. Canadians may be eagerly waiting for a spring thaw but there’s no one going more bananas over frozen ice than Donkey Kong. In just three days, the world’s most recognizable primate will finally learn how many bananas were frozen inside a massive block of ice buried deep in the wilderness. Canadians have until later today, Thursday February 20, to enter the Banana Mania contest at Nintendo of Canada’s Facebook page. Nintendo detailed major announcements for its Wii U home console and Nintendo 3DS portable system in the first Nintendo Direct of 2014.
