The Canadian Internet Forum (CIF) is the place for Canadians to share their thoughts on the development, deployment and governance of the Internet in Canada. Consisting of an annual event and an online discussion forum, the CIF brings together leading thinkers and experts to discuss a variety of Internet-related topics. The next CIF will begin on February 28, 2013 with a national event in Ottawa, and registration is now open. This year the CIF national event will be kicking off an online discussion forum, as Canadians can further explore the topics being discussed at the national event online. .CA is building Canada online – come help shape its future! Apply to join the Canadian Internet Registration Authority’s (CIRA) Nomination Committee. The Nomination Committee helps build a Board of Directors that represents a wide range of views and interests as it defines the strategic direction of .CA and contributes to Canadian Internet policy. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority, the organization that manages the .CA Internet domain, now supports the use of all French characters in .CA domain names, allowing Canadians to register their .CAs correctly in both official languages for the first time. Previously, the only characters that could be used in a .CA domain name were the letters a-z, the numbers 0-9 and hyphens. Read the rest of this entry »

CATAAlliance has launched an Advocacy Campaign to encourage the adoption of a Canadian form of the “Patent Box”, i.e., an “Innovation Box”. The Canadian “Innovation Box” would be tailored to provide a preferential, competitive tax regime for the successful exploitation and commercialization of Intellectual Property (IP), including patents, in Canada. The Writers’ Trust of Canada has announced the appointment of Mary Osborne as the organization’s new Executive Director. When the first Brazil-Canada 3.0 Conference opens today in the Brazilian northeastern city of João Pessoa, it will be the culmination of a dream shared by two world leaders from two continents. In August 2011, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, pledged their commitment to increased collaboration and enhanced business opportunities between their two countries. Now, inspired by the format of the CDMN Canada 3.0 digital media forum which Brazilian representatives attended last spring, Brazil-Canada 3.0 is under way today and tomorrow in João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil to move that commitment forward. Wavefront, Canada’s Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research, has signed an agreement with the British Columbia Innovation Council (BCIC) to deliver the Venture Acceleration Program, a BCIC Acceleration Network program supported by the BC Innovation Council.
