BDC Recognizes Aboriginal Entrepreneurship At E-Spirit Business Plan Competition Awards Ceremony

bdcThe Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) announced today the winners of its 13th annual BDC E-Spirit Business Plan Competition. Gold, Silver, and Bronze were awarded to the “Kanata of Youth” team from Winnipeg, MB,  “Frisbis” team from Coldstream, BC, and the “Onimiki” team from Maniwaki, QC, at a ceremony held at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. A total of 34 teams of Aboriginal students from across Canada participated in the competition. The three winning teams received cash prizes in the amount of $1,500 for Gold, $750 for Silver and $500 for Bronze. Nine Special Achievement awards were also presented with winners receiving iPads, Netbooks, and iPods. Read the rest of this entry »

Future Shop Future Generation Tech Lab Program Expands To Elementary Schools

Future ShopAfter five successful years of helping nearly 50 high schools across Canada transform their classrooms into modern learning centres, Future Shop‘s Future Generation Tech Lab program has announced the expansion of its grant opportunities to elementary schools. These grants will award up to $100,000 to public schools with grades ranging from kindergarten up to and including grade eight and secondary 2 in Quebec. Government of Canada Supports Scientific Discovery for Thousands of Researchers and Students

Government of CanadaScientists, engineers and students at universities across the country will receive significant support from the Government of Canada through the Discovery Grants, scholarships and fellowships. The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology) announced 3,808 research awards that will advance research in a full range of fields in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Canadian Film Centre Gets Beautifying Boost

CFCExtensive upgrades to the Canadian Film Centre‘s (CFC) Windfields campus are one step closer to reality today, as federal, provincial and municipal representatives joined Centre staff to celebrate the construction of the Northern Dancer Pavilion, which will allow the Centre to expand its film, television, digital media, screen acting and music program activities and will provide additional event space for the Centre and surrounding community. Propulsion – Using LEGO Blocks To Help Young Students Stay Motivated In School

WB Games MontrealOver a thousand young students from underprivileged communities in 23 elementary schools of the Pointe-de-l’Île and Montreal School Boards took part in the third edition of Propulsion, an innovative and unique program designed to encourage student retention through compelling educational projects. The results of their efforts were officially unveiled today at the WB Games Montréal studio. Based on a “learning through play” approach, this year’s project was aimed at Grade 4 to 6 students and involved building amusement rides with LEGO blocks. trios collegetriOS College has announced the launch of its new weekend video game camps, aimed at getting students excited and informed about what it takes to design and develop a video game.  These two-days camps run out of the triOS College Toronto and Kitchener campuses on select weekends from May 25 to August 24, 2013, with potentially more dates to be added.
