CyberPatriot V will culminate next week with the National Finals Competition on March 14-16 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. After three impressive preliminary rounds for which over 1,200 teams registered, just 28 teams remain, including 2 teams from Manitoba. The teams will compete for top honours in the All Service and Open Division categories. Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley will be the Keynote Speaker at the National Finals Competition Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. Awards will be presented by Maj. Gen. Suzanne M. Ram Raju, President and CEO of Kivuto Solutions Inc., an Ottawa-based complex digital distribution service provider, has received the IMPACT Award from the International Talent Acquisition Centre (In-TAC), another Ottawa-based organization that connects internationally-trained IT professionals with local employers. Raju received the award for his continuing support of In-TAC’s efforts through Kivuto’s proactive hiring practices. In 2012 alone, Kivuto hired 16 graduates of In-TAC’s employment programs. The freelance talent pool has grown stronger, a new survey suggests. Nearly seven in 10 (69 per cent) of advertising and marketing executives interviewed by The Creative Group said the calibre of independent creative professionals has increased in the last five years; among those, 22 per cent said it has increased significantly. Respondents cited “access to specialised skills or knowledge” as the greatest benefit of using freelancers. These findings and additional information, including tips for working with freelancers and questions to consider before pursuing a consulting career, are accessible in a new infographic from The Creative Group, a specialised staffing service for interactive, design and marketing professionals. The immersive game industry stands on the cusp of dramatic change following two years of specialized research conducted by Interactive Games Ontario 3D (iGO3D), an alliance of Ontario universities and leading game companies launched in early 2011. An overwhelming response to the annual Women in Games Scholarship offered by Vancouver Film School (VFS) has led to the unprecedented announcement of four recipients. Janel Jolly of Canada, Nicha Jaijadesuk of Thailand, Jaymee Mak of Australia, and Anna Prein of Russia have all been awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the one-year Game Design program.
