Game Changers: Leadership in the Digital Age (PDF), a new study released today by Canadian Women in Communications (CWC), reveals a changing leadership paradigm in Canadian technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sectors transformed by digital technologies. The consultation, which canvassed the views of 61 sector leaders across Canada and the U.S., found that traditional management skills, while still important, no longer assure success for executives or their organizations. The growth in the use of electronic payment products, such as credit and debit cards, added US$9.7 billion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Canada over the past four years, according to a study conducted for Visa by Moody’s Analytics, a leading independent provider of economic forecasting. The study of 56 countries, including Canada, that represent 93 per cent of global GDP, concluded that: “card usage makes the economy more efficient, yielding a meaningful boost to economic growth.” Read the rest of this entry »

However, just like the offline world, parents and teachers need to be fully aware of the risks children and youth may encounter while using the Internet. The economic impact of Canadian Film Centre and its alumni in Ontario is considerable according to a recent study conducted by Nordicity on the economic impacts of CFC’s graduates in the province. CFC, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS), engaged Nordicity to measure the economic impact of CFC graduates since 2005-06 – the first year of MTCS support. Study of the Economic Impacts of the Canadian Film Centre represents the first time an economic analysis of CFC graduates has been assessed, and provides a baseline for future studies. Hosted annually by 3P Learning, the World Education Games allows students from around the world to compete with each other in an on-line competition. Last year, 6 million students from over 200 countries and territories participated in the free competition. 3P Learning’s online resources – Mathletics, Spellodrome, and IntoScience – are the engines for the educational challenge that allows students to compete based on their age and skill level. BlackBerry and Unity Technologies have announced that they are working together to create a Unity deployment add-on product for BlackBerry® 10 smartphones, empowering Unity’s over 1.5 million strong developer community to publish their games on these powerful platforms. The deployment tools will also be available for BlackBerry PlayBook™ tablets when they run the BlackBerry 10 OS. BlackBerry 10 will now be one of the premiere mobile platforms supported by the market-leading Unity engine.
