McAfee Canada has released findings from the company’s 2013 Love, Relationships and Technology survey which examines the pitfalls of sharing personal data in relationships and discloses how breakups can lead to privacy leaks online. Sixty (60) per cent of Canadian smartphone owners have personal and intimate information on their mobile devices, such as bank account information, passwords, credit cards and revealing photos, yet four out of 10 users do not have password protection on their devices, leaving a huge gap in personal data protection. Canadian firms say lack of financing is the key barrier to innovation, even though Canada has one of the best-developed financial markets in the world. The first report of The Conference Board of Canada’s Centre for Business Innovation (CBI) suggests that investors will be more willing to finance innovation if innovators get better at explaining how their new or improved products or services will make money. A quarter of respondents to the CBI’s Innovator Survey on Innovation Metrics and Management identified finance as their number one challenge. Respondents to the nation-wide survey of more than 1,000 Canadian firms who are seeking financial support cited finance about four times more than any other issue. The lines between home and work are blurring. With busy lives and packed schedules, Canadian families need a way to manage “one life”. They want to be able to work where, how and when they want – on their terms. According to an Ipsos Reid study released today, 70 per cent of Canadian parents depend on technology to keep their families connected, while 78 per cent believe that technology allows their families to stay better organized. This survey, commissioned by Microsoft Canada, found that Canadians believe their lives have grown more complex over the past three years, and as a result, are utilizing new technology such as smartphones and cloud services to connect with family members on-the-go and stay on top of their hectic schedules.
