We know they’re out there, and the Ontario Science Centre is seeking nominations for the prestigious Weston Youth Innovation Award. The Centre is looking for Canadians aged 14 to 18 who have used science and/or technology to find solutions to real-world problems in new and creative ways. Successful candidates will have put their ideas into action, making a positive change either locally or beyond their communities. Created to encourage and recognize young Canadian innovators, the award gives youth the opportunity to share their ideas and to be featured at one of Canada’s most popular attractions. Visitors will experience more than 60 years of gaming entertainment and technology; from the very first commercial coin-operated game to the latest in virtual reality and 3D gaming. A vast majority of Canadians – 85% – say that music plays an important part in their lives, and a full 90% agree that it is the musician who should receive most of the proceeds from an original song, according to a new national survey conducted by Léger Marketing on behalf of SOCAN – the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada. And when it comes to whom Canadians would most like to share dinner or a drink with, a famous Canadian musician was chosen ahead of actors, athletes or writers, with politicians also bringing up the rear. Autodesk Inc. has announced the release of “Starforce Battlement,” a new 2D mobile tower defense game developed by the Autodesk Gameware team using the Autodesk Scaleform Mobile Software Development Kit (SDK) and Autodesk 3ds Max software. Created as a proof-of-concept game, “Starforce Battlement” is an engrossing mobile experience that demonstrates the latest capabilities of the Scaleform Mobile SDK. It is available today on iOS as a free iPad download and will be available on Android devices this year. The Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) announced today that two more digital media innovation centres have joined the CDMN’s cross-Canada network to enable collaboration and advance digital innovation nationally. The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre in northern Ontario, and Tech SouthEast in Moncton, New Brunswick become the newest nodes on the CDMN network, bringing the total number across Canada to 12 nodes with 20 locations. The CDMN has ambitious expansion plans for the network, and intends to sign additional nodes west of Ontario before the end of the year.
